HOW CAN I HELP YOU?

I specialize in psychotherapy designed to get to the root of your symptoms. My treatment has the goal of producing real, life altering improvement for clients in need of help. If you are new to psychotherapy or if you have been frustrated by previous treatments that have only provided short term relief, my method of therapy might be the right choice for you.

HOW DOES THERAPY WORK?

People are often unaware of the many factors that determine their emotions and behavior. These unconscious ideas may create unhappiness such as fear or sadness. At other times you may experience difficulties in relationships. Or struggle with work. Or have low self esteem. Because these forces are unconscious, the advice of friends and family, the reading of self help books, or even the most determined efforts of will often fail to provide relief; a therapist with the skill to identify these dynamics and bring them into awareness is needed.

WHAT IS MY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE?

I have over 20 years of clinical experience and have been trained by the top therapists in New York City and Washington D.C. My career began in 1996 as a Psychiatric Technician at the world famous Chestnut Lodge Hospital in Rockville, Maryland. I Graduated from George Washington University's Doctor of Psychology progam in 2007. As a Psychology Extern, I worked at House of Ruth, the George Washington University Center Clinic, and as a therapist for children and adolescent students in DC charter schools.  My Predoctoral internship was at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, which included rotations at Mt. Sinai Hospital and the Bernard L. Pacella Parent Child Center. My Postdoctoral training was completed at the Metropolitan Center for Mental Health where I worked with diverse populations and a variety of ages including adults, children and adolescents.

I have developed the therapeutic techniques needed to get to the source of your symptoms, which will allow positive changes for the long term.

Contact me for a consultation today. I look forward to helping you!

Crossing Brooklyn Bridge

I have suffered from social anxiety since I was a kid. I was skeptical of therapy working. The other times I tried to go see a professional they wanted me to take medication. Dr. Matkovic recommended insight therapy to treat my anxiety.  I am now more confident dating and in situations where I have to speak at work in front of my colleagues.

Romantic Couple Enjoying View

When we first went to see Dr. Matkovic for couples therapy we were on the verge of ending our relationship. We decided to give it one more shot. Six months later we are happily married and expecting our first child. Wish we went sooner!

After a second painful breakup in three years, I decided it was time to start therapy. I was nervous at first and didn’t know what to expect. It took a little while to see the benefits of the treatment. Dr. Matkovic is nice and listened to everything I had to say. At first he mostly asked questions. Later on he started offering some ideas which I had not thought of before and found useful. The therapy works, just don’t expect it to work in the first three or four visits.

Although I was never really diagnosed, I think I have been depressed since adolescence. Before starting therapy, I felt like I wasn't living up to my potential. Dr. Matkovic brought to my attention "conflicts" I was never fully aware of. I am now on a career path that is more challenging and enjoyable.

Man who feels on top of the world lookin

As a runner, I always felt like I wasn't competing up to my level. In training everything would go great but in a race I fell apart. I had briefly tried CBT and sports psychology books but to no avail. Dr. Matkovic said commitment to treatment is like training: the more you do it, the more likely you are to have success. There are no shortcuts in life. After a lot of hard work, we have seen results and my performance anxiety isn't a problem anymore.
